Magical Girl from Ely's Yard

Look at that girl and picture this: as I was hanging around on Ely's yard I set down by the street at the point where from the speakers strike the tune of Michael Jackson's Billie Jean. All of a sudden I noticed this girl ... this kid starts dancing to that song, I mean, she makes the MJ's moves with such confidence and style like she's on the top of the world. Meanwhile, her parents were around as well and you could see her father encouraging her. Stunned by her performance I couldn't help capturing her with my little camera. As she noticed it, she acts naturally as she's used to it.
She must be five or so, but she's a great mover and you could tell she's born to be on the stage. She was born to be a star. I could see it in her eyes ...

"She was more like a beauty queen from a movie scene I said don't mind, but what do you mean I am the one Who will dance on the floor in the round ... He told me her name was Billie Jean ..."

Legendary Jimmy Scott Changed Me

So here I am, standing beside the legendary Jimmy Scott who is signing his own record 'If you only knew' to a dedicated fan. 'Hey, baby' he greets him with his cheerful voice and starts to slowly left-hand-write on the old vynil cover. Meanwhile, the man (fan) is just standing there and you could see tears in his eyes as he was witnessing this - probably it was the happiest day of his life.

Madonna once said "Jimmy Scott is the only singer that can make me cry". David Lynch gives a jazz singer a cameo apperance in Twin Peaks that I could never forget.

I first heard Jimmy Scott's stunning live apperance when he was singing 'I Will Love You Just The Same' in the Westlake Studios in LA, 26 June 2009, while historical recording sesions under Ralf Kemper's Production for Jimmy Scott's legasy album were held.
I was holding my precious D5 mark II in my right hand and with my left I was drying my tears ... Me, a profesional photographer invited to portrait a legend and there I am - I cry.
I felt I will never be the same after this. And I'm not.

Jimmy Scott might be the most unjustly ignored American singer of the 20th century but in my heart he will forever be written as the greatest of them all.

Intervju, objavljen v novi številki Partysana. Lepo je biti Partyzanka! :)) Copy-paste nelektorirane verzije - za moje vdane fane (in sploh fanice! ;) OK, resno obljubim, da vam po tem vsaj 3 dni ne bom egotripirala ... although you probably know how it goes; when you dance with the devil, you can't stop dancing until the music stops.

P: Kriva si za izviren pristop na področju party oglaševanja: letak v obliki nekakšne konceptualne fotografije, katere podobe nas izzivajo na Into Something večere v K4. Pa nam zaupaj, kako poteka utelešenje take ideje in kdo so še ostali sokrivci?

M: Konkretno se je glavni del ideje rodil nekje med vožnjo iz Las Vegasa proti San Franciscu. "Ujameš majhno ribo in potem prihajajo še druge majhne ribe," če citiram Davida Lyncha, ki ideje rad primerja z ribami. V osnovi so krivci "Neodgovorni uredniki IntosomethinG", Katarina, ki piše tekste in Nina V. za dizajn. So-krivci pri mojih fotografijah pa so modeli: Saša, Ali, Anna in Žiga, njihove vloge in interakcije med sabo se spreminjajo v skladu z zgodbo, z oblekami je na pomoč priskočila Davorka (DP), za make-up so bili do zdaj zaslužni Tinka Pobalinka, Jakob in Kate, potem je tu še nepogrešljiva pomoč pri logistiki - tukaj moram pohvaliti Metko in Erika in če sem zdaj koga pozabila omeniti, obstaja možnost, da je nagačen, haha. Skratka, fenomenalna ekipa smo, vzdušje na snemanju je vedno super - če bi nas kdo opazoval, bi mislil, da gre le za zafrkancijo, čeprav je stvar seveda smrtno resna ... ;-)

P: Cyber-glam-metro kič, svizci in polaroidne kamere. Elementi, »nametani« na kup v hipu umetniškega zanosa, ali skrbno premišljena fuzija prvin z globljim, sublimalnim pomenom?

M: Vzdušje, barve, interakcija - vse to 'vidim' davno preden začnem fotografirati. Na set pridem s skico, v katero sem 'čečkala' že vsaj par dni prej - vsi elementi morajo biti obkljukani. Imam nekakšno čudno čustveno navezanost na določene stvari na fotografiji in verjetno je v tem vsa skrivnost ... "so me!" :)

P: Kje si pridobila začetne izkušnje na področju studijske fotografije? Kontrolirana luč, precizno naličeni obrazi, skrbno izbran styling, so namreč segmenti, ki grobo opisujejo modno studijsko fotografijo, med drugim tudi prej omenjene letake. Lahko Marto za aparatom vidimo tudi kdaj »on-the-spot«, recimo na safariju v Afriki, ali pa kar na foto safariju na kakšnem party-u?

M: Studijsko fotografijo mi je predstavil za to najboljši mentor - Aleš Bravničar. Naučil me je, da je modna fotografija rezultat uigrane ekipe, ter da je treba za dober rezultat na set prinesti kar nekaj železja in svetlobnega parka. Dejstvo je, da se nobenemu modnemu fotografu za mišice na rokah ni potrebno truditi v fitnesu. Hja, zalotiti s fotoaparatom me je mogoče tudi na drevesu, opozorila pa bi, da pogosto fotografiram tudi med vzratno hojo, zato previdno! :) Resno: obožujem vse lokacije s pridihom nostalgije in naravo.

P: Freelance fashion & portrait photographer, editor, sex columnist, social media overdoser, rebel & visual artist… si o sebi zapisala na Fejsbuku. Ta pluralnost zeva tud tudi iz tvojega bloga www.zadetaodlajfa.si. Kje je sploh tvoja meja in kje vidš, da te bo pretežno zasidrala v prihodnosti?

M: Moj glavni fetiš je človek - no, in morda še nekatere živalske vrste. Od tu naprej se ne omejujem! Pomembno je, da se izražam, zgodb in medijev za pripovedovanje je nešteto. Lahko je fotografija, lahko je članek, lahko je video, lahko pa je 140 znakov na Twitterju! Prihodnost? Nekoč bi rada režirala film. Vse je odvisno od tega, na kateri kontinent me bo življenje popeljalo. Verjetno bom izdala knjigo, dve, skratka - za sabo bom vedno puščala sledi.

P: Kaj pa kot partysanki, kakšna zabava ti je najbolj pogodu? Je dovolj prava družba, ali si tudi tehnično izbirčna glede glasbe, lokacije in ostalih gradnikov nočnega avdio-vizualnega hedonizma?

M: Izbirčna! Podplate svojih Allstark si najraje uničujem v štirkinem podzemlju, kadar DJ smeti z čimbolj predrznimi brejki, umazanimi beati in electro' roll poslasticami. Ker sem vizualka, je pomembno tudi, da VJ bliska frame by frame v čimbolj flurostenčnih barvah in ja, všeč mi je, če si ljudje za party poudarijo svoj individum s kakšnimi bolj drznimi stylingi. Obožujem maškare skozi vse leto!! V transcendentno stanje me bo verjetno odpeljalo nekje na med mixom od Justice, MGMT, Adam Freelandom in The Knife, če pa bom okoli sebe videla v transu 'muvati' še znane partysane in partysanke, bom proti dopoldnevu zaspala z nasmehom na obrazu - in se z njim tudi zbudila.

Finally changed my Myspace profile song! (That's news if you do that once every hundred years;) Anywayz, I've been all day long enjoying the post punk indie nouse and sinuous electro funk music of Boys Crisis, Oh, L'homme ... a music for my ears at the moment!

So this five guys says they are on a mission to make you party your way out of the credit crunch. No shit! And they make their own brand of electronic arthouse funk that sounds smart and sleazy, intelligent and hedonistic, and if you ask me - they can be the next MGMT this year.

No shit.
