Soldier becomes a Warrior

The most precious photograph I ever made in terms of not be able to see an emotion on a person face. I'm looking at this picture as an emotion itself. While my imagination is like "battlefield, wounded, warrior dying, sunset" without saying a single word a warrior like Emulgator makes that happen.

The Magical Start

Happy New Year, everyone!

It's 1. January 2010 and my day started highly exceptional: this morning my love and I woke up early, jogged through awakening medina to the lonely long sandy beach.
Do you agree that there's nothing like having all the beach for yourself?

For the first time in 14days that we're here in Essaouira, Marocco - today, the beach was really clean - like the Ocean splashed away all the dirtiness of the 00's? The sun was kissing me there - literally, and with a finger in the sand I draw J + M in the shape of heart.
And then we watched the waves go milky on the rocks... oh, that warm breeze in our faces. Intoxicating. We walked and jogged until we saw only sea, foam around the rocks in it and the desert far away ...
For a moment I stopped : this are the melting rocks!

2010, my friends, is going to be magical. Promise.

Widows & Soldiers on the Cover of W25 Magazine

A while ago I've got an e-mail from editors of W25 Magazine. They invited me to submit some of my fashion photography work. Of course I choose the story of Widows & Soldiers as my favorite one! I sent them material & credits and waited ...
Today I've found out on my e-mail that they've published my 9 photographs on the 8 page editorial of the magazine plus they put photo of the ultimate widow on their COVER of April 09 issue!! I have to punch myself: The COVER!! :)
I called Davorka the very next second (as she sleept today extreemely long) "wake up, darling, suprise is awaiting on your email!"
We are of course thrilled. Yey! Congratulations to the W&S crew!
What's the deal? W25 Magazine is a nontraditional independent publication dedicated to stretching the boundaries of self expression in photography, music, illustration, lyrics etc. W25 Magazine presents artists' work from around the world as a free e-magazine, which is also available in print on demand.

Thanks again to the W25 Magazine and of course to the Universe for making this happen!

The Art of Twitter Attraction & Warren Ellis

This is story about the beautiful stuff that Social Media can do. Two days ago while I again stayed up waaay past midnight (twittering the night away) an incredible thing happened. I somehow found a writer Warren Ellis from (bloody) England, who described himself on Twitter as "English Writer. Not Australian Musician. Hasn't slept since 1985." and I thought: that is a genius! I went checked his site warrenellis.com, and after a five minutes I felt really satisfied that I again found someone really interesting to follow. YES!

Warren Ellis is the award-winning creator of graphic novels such as FELL, MINISTRY OF SPACE, PLANETARY, and TRANSMETROPOLITAN, and the author of “underground classic” CROOKED LITTLE VEIN.

Naturally I clicked "follow". After this I'd usually just click myself off, but since his last tweet was actually a simple question about what people do in their lives (he has over 21.000 followers!) I was like, well, I'll answer this one ...

@WarrenEllis So what do you people (the ones I don't already know) do for a living?
@MartaLamovsek basically I make icons out of people I like.

"Basically I make icons out of people I like." (Yes, originally mine, and you can quote me forever!:) Surely that kinda tweet reply could sound dodgy but I basically wrote how I would really want to describe it. And apparently - being true to yourself hasn't lost its appeal, also on Twitter... because it turned out that only a few hours later sleepless writer Warren Ellis was posting my photographs on his blog. When I saw this today I said to myself: now THAT was a bloody good Twittering a night away ...

Basically I want to read all of his books - and then I'd made him a cover for his next one! :)

Conquer of The New Territory

I can't think of a better occasion for another (dusted) ultimate S & W shot since DP has been invited to show her Widows & Soldiers collection as a guest designer at Fashion Week in Bitola, Macedonia! Yeaaah!

I think I'll just go pack my baggies ... it's about time to do some nu-old damage! ;)

A Widow is a Winner!

Widow misses her Husband Marta Lamovšek
Recently I become a huge fan of Fashion Photography Blog created by Melissa Rodwell - a Los Angeles based fashion photographer, who's been at the top of her craft for over 20 years. Her insight and willingness sharing her experience and expertise and to teach others has been a big stand out to me. Her blog is a real treasure! She totally rocks my blogroll!!

And today a huge surprise awaited me on my email: I'm The Winner of The Shot of The Week! How? Everybody can submit one fashion photograph to FPB with an explanation and then see what happens! The beauty of being a winner of this contest is - apart from the fact that a lot of people from all around the globe can see your work - the most important thing, for this is what I'm allways greatful the most: the feedback.
So yes, if you're a winner, a pro like Melissa Rodwell will comment your work! Isn't this all we want at the end of the day? Okaj, enough said: you can find everything about submiting here! And now I'm going back to where I was before I wrote this post: Heaven :)

Photoshooting Mission Impossible

Yesterday the DP crew had another suicide project: a whole day photoshooting in Kras at -6°C temperature and BURA conditions at a high level!! I did never before experienced that kind of power of nature while I was working, because especially in the winter you would not see me exposing to the deadly freezing weather - like, not even in your worst nightmare! ;)
A day before Erik, who found the perfect location we were looking for, told me and Davorka that our attempt is pretty crazy, but we allready decided and not even a hurricane could not stop the stubborn two girls! ;D
Now I can not even express my gratitude to our amazing model Ali (she of course had the hardest job of us all) and to Erik and Tinka who believed in our project with Davorka - for now just a little promise to you all I can keep: we will rock with our story ...

Polaroid

My Burning Man

Nature never made a plan, nor does it seem to copy very well. No living thing is ever quite the same as others of its kind. Charles Darwin called this Natural Variation. There is a kind of subtle chaos, a supple element of chance and change, residing at the core of living things. We've learned that DNA, the code that programs life, is subject to continual mutation. This enables generations to evolve within a changing world.
This year's art theme of Burning man contemplates the power and the meaning of the process we call evolution.

Wisdom from the Chamber

“To live in this world, you must be able to do three things: to love what is mortal; to hold it against your bones knowing your own life depends on it; and, when the time comes to let it go, to let it go” - Mary Oliver
